Mass is measured in grams, not square miles ....that is like the famous Star Wars gaffs when Han Solo said the Millenial Falcon set the record for The Kessel Run in 12 parsecs....a unit of distance, not speed.

But I love your point where big corporations are trashing the Earth for their own profits....and that our lives and economies are essentially dictated by their products and behaviour.

And even if consumers balk, sometimes the response is disingenious. (Some) fast food companies for example, let their patrons sort their garbage into recycling and garbage, only to put everything together curbside.
Their consumers think they are doing good but for the company it means extra handling costs so they simply negate the good their patrons try to do.

Sugar is one of my beefs. Big Sugar vs Fat was a big debate in the 1950's or so. Big Sugar won and sugar was deemed ...by politicians no less....to be less harmful than fat.
We now have a huge Type2 Diabetes issue around the world as sugar is added to almost eveything.

Here one use plastic is being banned. So no more plastic shopping bags for example. Problem is everyone re-used them as garbage bags. Now with no more "free" garbage bags, they have to buy them from Glad or another supplier or find some other way to neatly dispose of waste

Still, how we as individuals and as a group respond is strictly on us.

If you\enough people boycot a company, they will change their behaviour because it hurts their bottom line.

If you elect politicians who will promote your agenda, you may change things.

In the end, it is entirely up to you and the decisions you make for yourself. That is true for faith and all other areas of life
