Just some food for thought....

Yes, I agree that there are varying levels of talent or perhaps merely experience displayed in the entries to this contest. But I think everyone who submitted a lyric deserves to be recognized for having the courage to bare their soul to the entire planet and to be judged and ranked.

You know what? I think the guts to do that is the first big hurdle a songwriter has to leap bravely over before he or she can really begin to improve their craft.

That's being more than brave, that displays courage that is trancendental. And besides that, it's just plain smart. Anybody who really wants to become a better writer knows what an enemy to progress their own ego-goggles can be. IMHO the most effective tool to be used against it is the honest, constructive viewpoints of the people you are playing to, and the willingness to listen to them.

OK, this is a contest, somebody will win, most won't. But everybody who submitted has already won a measure of respect, even if it only comes from themselves. That's the best prize there is.
