We have a different system in Canada. Each party in each district, through their delegates, elects the person that will represent them. The members(delegates) of each party will elect their leader. In a general election the party electing the most people will form the government. Each party is only allowed to spend a certain amount on their campaign and each member is capped in their spending. All donations must be made public and a cap is put on how much any one person or company can donate.
You don't have to be filthy rich to run for government here, but it helps if you are.
