Well, may as well give a viewpoint from another Western democracy.....

The US, like like all Western nations, is no more free than anywhere else. Like Oz, the US has instituted the largest range of freedom defying laws ever to grace the planet. You, and all of us can be listened to, spied on, held without charge for indefinite periods, and carted off to the Gulag at any time without a court order or due process.

It is also primarily run by the power brokers, the money men, and the dozen or so families which own of 99% of it's wealth. e.g. George, and Son of George. Hilary and Bill.

We've just booted out our conservative government after a ten year reign of misinformation, scare tactics and downright lying , to replace it with a more socialistic and hopefully socially just alternative.

I sincerely hope my US mates will do the same thing, and reign in the loss of freedom before the Homeland boys can spread their fear mongering, and their socially inequitable policy any further.

Just my 2 cents from a supposodly free Oz citizen.
