Thanks for posting that. I have read it before and it always gives me a lump in my throat.

I think one REAL reason for the USA helping other countries is the simple fact that we are a nation of Immigrants.
Everyone in America except the American Indian is from another country. And even they came across the land bridge from Asia.

Most of us are proud of that. We call ourselves African/American, Irish/American, German/American, Mexican/American, ETC. And I think we can be proud of that.

It only stands to reason that we would want to reach out and help the countries of our ancestors.

I wonder when another country, Like France or Germany for instance, starts blasting the USA for our lifestyle or the things we do. Some of our decisions are made by French/Americans, or German/Americans.

My Ancestors came to this country in the Early 1600's from England, Ireland, and Scotland. I am proud of that. I am proud that I am an American but I always tell my Grand kids where our people came from. I don't want them to forget that.
If they know they came from the UK (and we now have European and Mexican blood in the family) and Europe then they will be more likely to reach out and help those countries when they need help.

And that's a good thing.
