As for the bars, I suspect that the owners of the places had at least some idea of what they were doing, so that's on them.

And, last but not least, the people themselves refused to honor their promises?!?!

Most people who drink, also smoke, why don't these whiny little non-smokers invest their money, pool it together, and open their very own smoke-free bars that suit them, with their own money?

That's what the smokers had to do if they wanted to open up a bar.


Sam, here's what happened...EVERY (or practically every) bar owner was against the ban. The clever lawyers put the language in such a way that people didn't understand exactly WHAT it was they were supposed to vote, "yes" meant "no" and "no" meant "yes". My own boss passed out flyers to vote "yes" (when it should have been "no") because she didn't understand the wording. Her bar was always ALL SMOKING, and the restaurant area too. WE LIKED it that way! So did all of the customers. Towards the time for voting, we had people coming in pretending to be on oxygen machines, when the place was practically EMPTY, going "Oh, someone's smoking a cigarette, we can't eat here!" and leaving. Funny how those people never returned after the ban.
