Auntie, some of us can't eat or pay bills *right now*, despite the exchange thing.

On t'other front, to borrow a line from the hated (but in my opinion, too liberal) John Birch Society, we're not supposed to have a democracy in this country. Instead, we have a representative government, like the ancient Romans (though we confined their Chicago-style voting practices to Chicago). The idea was to prevent tyrranies by the majority such as we have now. I was always fond of Oliver Wendell Holmes' mantra: "My right to swing my fist stops at the end of your nose." We have unfortunately gotten far away from that. People who don't agree with you or me have rights, too.

Like Bob, I hear the "if it saves just one life" argument a lot from the we-want-to-control-your-life-for-your-own-good people way too much. My standard response:

Q. In Africa there's a woman giving birth every ten seconds.
A. We have to find that woman and stop her.

Have a nice day, y'all.

Joe
