The charts dont lie, Havent heard a great crafted song in some time, but many songs I enjoy listening to. As a writer/performer with a eye on tomorrow (meaning me)... I would say the Bruno Mars writes very crafty songs with lyrics that have lots of great imagery. If all that's being focused on is the production then the meaning will be lost. I would also say that Lady GaGa has also written some memorable songs. Not her entire catalog and much of it is co-written, but nonetheless I don't know of any artist past or present that writes 100% hits and depth every time. All I get out of this thread is: "Whaaaaaaaaa. My era isn't on top anymore." If you're not happy with quality of songs today - then start proving everyone wrong by writing songs that define what tomorrow will be. Who will do it?
