I'm grateful to have lived in the Golden Age. There haven't been many of them. Throughout history, art has more often than not been the milieu of the poor, crazy, obsessed artist-type. People love to enjoy it--rich people even purchase it--but the artists themselves have generally been the type of people your parents warn you not to become.
Good songwriting is very low on the list of what most people want. They want to be entertained, they want their world decorated with pleasurable sights and sounds...they are not hoping to admire someone's work. good read.
