I don't disagree with any of that.
We live in a specialist world, so much so that a cardiologist cant even diagnose a cold. Baseball players who do nothing but pinch run.
There are plenty of "songwriters" who write for tv spots etc.
But you basicly said what I said, pure songwriter=dead.
doesnt mean there isnt talent out there, just means nobody cares about the singer-songwriter thoughts on the world.
There's always been a timberlake or a bieber, nobody minds them, but the Paul Simons and Carly Simons of the world are not there.
Even though there are some great performers and singers.
I can admire a TV songwriter or a soundtrack guy, he's a songwriter, but it's more production than songwriting.
Songwriting fully is pencil and paper and an instrument.
Havent heard a great story song in a while.
