What did Mike Dunbar hit on the head, that its hard to make money from songwriting? Was it ever easy?
I dont think u guys are getting the jist of the conversation.
It has changed, check. It is different, check.
But it's not songwriting as it once was.
The popular music today is production driven, less about melody, less about lyric. To deny that is not paying attention.
If Shelia Davis released her craft of songwriting book today, she would be using Taylor swift and Adelle as samples, instead of Paul Simon, Jimmy Webb and Cynthia Weil.
Im not saying that songwriting doesnt exist, im saying time tested classic songwriting is not important today.
Not sure Bob Dylan would have done so well in this day and age.
Obviously songs are needed, in that, songwriting is not dead. But the fine art of songwriting is not needed or appreciated by the masses.

"Do not endeavor to be the smartest kid in a dumb class. Instead, you are better off being the dumbest kid in the smartest class, where you will be challenged and you will learn. If you aren't growing, you are dying." -Brian Austin Whitney
