That was my point Mike The priest cut the guy off from the church. But he could not cut him off from his God. I guess I just stated it wrong. However, if he had to go to the Pope to get back in it was surely a very serious thing in that day. Sounds like he was given total excommunication. A complete shunning. In that case he could not worship in the way of the church. But I know exactly nothing about the Catholic religion so I might be wrong.
Damn, we just can't get back to the original question can we. Since I cannot take part in any discussion that denigrates another persons faith I think I'm out of this one.
