I always go back to this simple question; What created the universe? (If you say "Big Bang" then what created that?). God is what none of us knows. Organized religion is many things to many people. It can be something of great beauty and peace or something of great ugliness and violence. It mirrors people in general because people will corrupt anything they touch, fight to change or adjust it, make it more in their image and liking, use it to keep people under their thumb. Religion, ironically, is a mirror image of government. But God is still that which science can't explain and which even an atheist can't either. There's no question the living things on earth are all elegant designs. Hard to believe it's all random. And if it IS all random, why aren't new species popping up out of nothing all the time? Things in the natural world are surprisingly orderly. Humans are the opposite. We are simply the top predator on a predatory rock floating through space. But something created everything and the "big bang theory" is nothing more than that... and religion is also a theory and ones that have been around far longer than the big bang theory interestingly enough... yet Atheists religions is in effect science... but science is proven wrong daily. They just had to completely rewrite all the knowledge surrounding the conditions that must exist to support life. They found that life can spring up from arsenic and nothing more. That sure changed everything.. but you don't see much finger pointing about how unfounded science is and hateful insulting arguments about how stupid someone must be to believe in our tiny and mostly incorrect knowledge of our tiny universe which is a dot in the vast sky.

I believe life is teaming all over the universe. I disagree with most organized man made religions because of many of the same reasons Big Jim choose not to believe in any of them. But... I believe in God. And I believe in a certain amount of fate which nudges each of us in certain ways, sometimes we pay attention or notice, often we do not. But, religious people and non religious people should all agree in the golden rule: Do unto others as you'd have others do unto you. Whether there is anything after death or not, I can make the same compelling argument why we should do the right thing as often as we can and do as little harm to others as we can manage. To do otherwise is just as evil whether there's a heaven or not. To do the right thing is goodness no matter whether there is a hell or not. So what harm is there in letting people peacefully practice religion? When it crosses over to evil, however, no matter what name is on the religion, it should be treated swiftly and harshly to keep it from repeating, whatever it takes.

To some, Government and/or science's knowledge base is their "deity." To others, it's something less easy to disprove, God.

Which is easier to believe in and least likely to be disproven? You make the call.
