The difference between an Atheist and a person who believes in one God is exactly that one God. Throughout history there have been roughly 2800 God's. Thus, when it comes down to it, that's a very small percentage of difference - as the God believer and the Atheist only differ in opinion by 1. Obviously this percentage changes a little if you believe in paganism. And if you believe in Hinduism, then we're talking upwards of several hundred million Gods and Goddesses.
That this little difference creates such a huge problem for some people is absolutely mind boggling and baffling.
