John, the 'theory' of evolution is considerably more than an educated guess.  Unfortunately, the term is often misunderstood. In scientific parlance, a theory is an explanation that is accepted to be true, because it is based on a given number of facts that have been demonstrated - proven - to be true: in other words, based on extensive empirical evidence. It's a hypothesis that is an 'educated guess'. Hence, we have a ' theory of evolution' and not a ' hypothesis of evolution'. Homo sapiens aren't a result of a cross-breeding of species, but of ongoing, separate adaptation over millions of years. Donna
