You nailed it Brian.....everyone is entitled to believe in what they want to.....Whilst I might not agree with certain beliefs or see any logic or much good in them I would defend that right with my life....but on the other hand nobody has the right to inflict pain on others whether in God's name or not....most Atheists I know are pacifists who fit well into any society with decent morals and we are in the main honest caring folk who pretty much follow Christian ideals anyway albeit without actually believing in God or following the dogmas associated with certain religious orders or sects....I wish even more religious folk would practice their own ethics and follow their own commandments and teachings.
Now I know a lot of good kind people who are deeply religious.....but there are those who go to church on Sunday but who are robbers, murderers, liars and thiefs mon-sat.....I do not quite understand how they can be so hypocritical.
I just watched the news and a whole bunch of people in Iran are wanting death to all infidels...now these people are deeply religious and follow their fundamentals to the letter.....sadly they have been brainwashed into this behaviour.....cause they are told that they will get all sorts of rewards in heaven if they murder in the name of Allah the one and only God.....no God I could ever support could sanction this nonesense....God should be a personal thing...without all the hoo-hah of organised religious nonesense.
