Lets try one more letter, we'll jump ahead 13 years from the last one, all the ones in between were passes as well of course.
I don't think the discussion of what goes into and around submitting songs to labels and publishers is a strong subject here. So I'll put that away now

I would love to say this song was born of strong sentiments and love of music.
However it wasn't, my friend and I were working on another song, I think it was "Middle Of Nothing" and we were struggling as usual. Especially lyrically.
I got very frustrated and said "we should just write any old thing,play two chords and go off on the first thing that comes to mind. It was born out of frustration!And lets write it in 15 minutes too lol..

So we did... Of course I had to re-visit it. So I came back alone to finish by adding the last verse. And plug a few holes.

We figured it was just a silly fun song to do and a good ice breaker to getting serious again. We had a lot of fun going back and forth lyrically with it. One guy saying "roof top vocals" the other "hip hop beat"

Basically it turned into fun and a challenge we didn't think ANYONE would actually like it. We just new we could also write a song that was more specific,detailed,clever,humorous, & catchy!

When any talk of MARKETING came up, I KNEW we needed to have some KID who someone finds working in a supermarket or something and make him the face and voice of the song. A kid from Brooklyn.

Only RAP is about the only thing Brooklyn is relative too or anything else labels were interested in. So the song with ME doing everything is soulful but not nearly urban enough.
I looked for and tried other vocalists but none were putting the song across with any real conviction. And it has Melody so just talking through it seemed counter productive.

But still in my mind I knew all it needed was some silly video
think about that Rico Suave singing about himself.
Vanilla Ice and the many other ONE HIT WONDERS.

If we could have gotten a sit down for 10 minutes over the song. I would have basically said this to the executives who are ALL about money.

I don't want you to release this song to any other country, I don't want you to release it to any other state in America.
As a matter of fact no other borrow in NYC even. Just Brooklyn
There are over 5 million people in Brooklyn alone and I think ALL of them would eat this song UP. So even if you move only 250,000 there alone it's worth it, now add the other borrows near
by like Manhattan, Staten Island (50% at least Brooklyn) Queens etc... NOVELTY! start there!

Then send the KID of your choice the star of the song back to the supermarket lol

The BIGGEST problem here was the label was TOO BIG for one thing.
This would be great for an upstart or indie label. Just to make a little noise and a quick buck to help get started.
After all isn't that what we ALL just really want, need and dream of? Just a little splash and some funds to support ourselves and what we do?

The song is not that smart but there sure have been,are and will be a LOT dumber ones on the radio doing exactly that!

More comments are left for it than any other and I get emails from strangers about it all the time. All positive.. so there it sits on youtube with 18,228 views and counting
